Given below are a few rules and the steps that are followed in the game:
• The betting limit and structure would be different for every game so the amount of blinds and antes that you will have to place would also be different. This is the amount that all players will have to place to start the game.
• In Texas Holdem, a standard deck is used and the dealer would first shuffle the cards.
• Each player would receive two cards, facing down known as the hole cards or the pocket cards.
• In the first beting round, the player sitting on the left of the blind would have to bet first. The first round is called preflop betting round. When you bet, the options that you will have are raise, call or fold.
• Once the betting rounds end, the top card would be discarded from his deck, called the burn card. This would be done in the land based casinos to prevent cheating. In online poker sites, the shuffling of the cards and the distribution would be automatic, done by special software.
• Next, three cards would be placed on the cards, facing up. This is the flop and the cards can be used by any player on the table for forming a hand.
• For the next betting round the top card would again be discarded and another card, known as turn, would be placed facing up on the communal table.
• Another betting round would commence. In several games, the betting sizes can double for this round.
• The last card would be placed then on the table. The final card is called the river. Using any of the five cards on the table and the two cards that players have, a hand can be formed.
• This would be followed by the final betting round and then there would be a showdown. Players who have not folded hands by then will have to show their cards and the one that has the best hand would win the pot. In many cases the amount would be split between various players.
